Preparing For Your Missions Trip

Group Leaders:
Your project’s effectiveness depends heavily on preparation. The better prepared your team, the more trust we’ll build with our host ministry and/or church.

AIM's Missions 101 Training Manual will guide you through everything you’ll need to prepare prior to your departure. You’ll have step-by-step directions and videos and we'll include culture-specific information about your project, too. You can cover all the material in eight sessions.

Being flexible and prepared will help your team dive right into ministry. For example, your team might be asked to lead a children’s program – having a puppet show or songs prepared in advance allows you to engage quickly. Your team might be asked to an evangelistic outreach to youth – having a “drime” (a skit that tells a story without words, perhaps set to music: drama + mime) ready right away could be a great way to share the gospel.

It’s also very important for the team to be spiritually prepared. The missions field is the place where most of us face the reality of the spiritual:
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
    - Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)
Encourage them to read the Bible and pray together regularly; these are simple ways for the team to equip themselves spiritually. Everyone on the team will have the chance to be used by God to change the eternal destinies of the people they will meet. They’ll also have an opportunity to trust Jesus more deeply than ever before.

Vision Trips:
You have the opportunity to travel to certain locations where we host missions trips and observe one of our projects. To learn more, click here [link to URL of vision trip information landing page].

Participants:
We’ll provide devotional journal to every team member to use before and during the project. All members should go through training so that they’re ready to share their testimony. They’ll have the opportunity to explain how Jesus loves us and that we can have a personal relationship with Him and we wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on the blessing of leading someone to Christ!
