Preparing For Your Mission Trip

Group Leaders:
Your preparation is crucial to the effectiveness of your project. We don’t mean to be harsh but unprepared groups can damage the credibility of our witness in an area. We do our best to uphold the credibility of the host church and local pastor. We guard against losing the trust of the people and the faith of a youth group.

AIM's Missions 101 Group Leader's Manual will walk you through everything you’ll need to be ready for your departure. You’ll have step-by-step directions, and handouts that you may reproduce for the members of your group. We'll include culture-specific information about your project, too. You can cover all the material in eight sessions.

Please encourage your group to learn and prepare skills such as mime, drama, puppetry, and music ministry.

The members of your group will be entering spiritual war zones unlike any they have ever experienced. Please encourage them to read their Bibles and pray together. This will not be like watching a movie or playing a video game of good versus evil. Each member of your team will have a real-life opportunity to be used by our Living God to change the eternal destinies of the people they will meet. And, they’ll have an opportunity to entrust their lives to Jesus Christ more completely than ever before.

Group Leader Training
If you are a Group Leader who has never participated on an AIM Mission trip, you are required to attend a Missions 101 Seminar or host a Missions 101 Plus Weekend.

Missions 101 Seminars
A Missions 101 Seminar is an excellent, one-day training seminar included in the cost of your trip. All food and training material costs are also covered. Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to the training location.

The seminars provide times for you to meet AIM staff and to discuss your expectations and ministry goals.

Seminar topics include:
 - Experience AIM’s ministry objectives
 - Q & A about a typical AIM trip.

Missions 101 Plus Weekend - NEW!
Missions 101 Plus is a weekend of pre-trip training hosted by your group and lead by an AIM Representative. The weekend is customized for training not just your group leader as required by AIM, but your entire group benefits from on-site training.

Vision Trips
You have the opportunity to travel to certain locations where we host mission trips and observe one of our projects with your representative. Ask your representative about the requirements for this.

Participants:
Each member of your group will receive a devotional journal to use before and during the project. Also, all members should go through training, so that they are able to share their testimony. Team members will be expected to explain to a lost person how to have a personal relationship with Jesus. We wouldn’t want anyone in your group to miss out on the eternal blessing of leading someone to Christ. There’s nothing “on earth” like it!
